  • 18 years of age or older
  • Custody of one or more minor children
  • Homeless or imminently at risk of homelessness
  • Income of 30% of AMI or less
  • Willing and able to pursue education or job training
  • Able to provide proof of income
  • Working or diligently pursuing employment
  • Frederick County resident
  • Eligible for public housing
Mission & Programs

Established in 1988 Advocates for Homeless Families has successfully provided services to several hundred families who ultimately overcame homelessness, enhanced their lives, and became active members of their community. The dedication and support of our Board of Directors, Donors, Volunteers, and Staff provides a solid foundation for the success of our mission and the families we serve. The organization values its partnerships with fellow human service organizations to ensure that families and individuals in the community are provided the necessary resources and support to live healthy, safe, and responsible lives.


Mission Statement


Advocates for Homeless Families’ mission is to empower motivated families to overcome homelessness. Families achieve success through a structured two-year program of education, housing and support services.

Transitional Housing Program

The Transitional Housing Program is a two-year structured and holistic program provided to families who are homeless. The program, which includes individualized case management and Life Skills Workshops, is designed to support families in their transition to stable and independent living.
The Families Forward Program is designed to be preventative for families who are at-risk of becoming homeless. A two-year structured and comprehensive program providing individualized case management and Life Skills Workshops to support families in maintaining their self-sustainability and improve their standard of living.
